A Prince’s Big Wedding Party in Brunei

A prince from a faraway place called Brunei got married to a lady who was not a princess. They had a very big party for their wedding that lasted for ten days. Lots of people came to the party, even kings and presidents from other places. The prince and his new wife said hello to everyone from a fancy car. The wedding was in a big palace.

The prince is famous because he puts pictures and videos on the internet. He is the son of the big boss of Brunei but he is not going to be the big boss next. The prince likes to show people what he does, like playing a horse game and being a soldier. Only boys went to one part of the wedding in a place with a big gold dome. Now the prince and his wife are starting a new part of their lives.

Group or Classroom Activities

Warm-up Activities:

– Charades
Instructions: Write down key words from the article on slips of paper and put them in a hat. Have students take turns drawing a slip and acting out the word without speaking. The rest of the class must guess what word they are acting out.

– Vocabulary Pictionary
Instructions: Divide the class into pairs. Give each pair a set of vocabulary words from the article. One student must draw a picture of the word while the other student tries to guess what it is. They can only use pictures, no words or gestures.

– Keyword Hangman
Instructions: Choose a keyword from the article and write the number of letters on the board using dashes. Students take turns guessing letters. If a guessed letter is correct, write it in the correct position. If it is incorrect, draw a part of the hangman. The students must work together to guess the keyword before the hangman is completed.

– Synonym Challenge
Instructions: Write down key words from the article on slips of paper and put them in a hat. Have students take turns drawing a slip and coming up with as many synonyms for the word as they can in one minute. The student with the most synonyms wins.

– Two Truths and a Lie
Instructions: Have each student come up with two true statements and one false statement about themselves related to the article. They take turns sharing their statements with the class, who must guess which statement is the lie.
