Answers and Tips

Task 1

Band 5 Example Answer:

Dear Head of the Local Council,

I am writing about the park renovation. Our park is old and needs new things. It is important because people go to the park a lot. Kids play, adults walk and everyone likes fresh air. A nice park makes our neighborhood better.

I think we need new swings and a slide for kids. Maybe put in some benches and lights for safety. It would be good to have a place for dogs too, so they can run and play.

New swings and a slide will make kids happy. Benches are good for old people to sit and watch. Lights will keep us safe at night. A dog area will make dog owners happy because their dogs can have fun.

I can help with the park. I can tell people about the changes and get them excited. Maybe I can plant flowers or paint benches.

Thank you for making our park better.

Sincerely,
Alex Goodman

Band 7 Example Answer:

Dear Council Leader,

I am writing to express my support for the upcoming renovation of our local park. As a resident of the neighborhood, I believe this project is vital to enhancing our community's quality of life.

The park serves as a central hub for families, friends, and individuals to relax, play, and connect with nature. However, it's clear that the playground equipment is outdated, the walking paths are worn, and the lack of seating areas limits its use. Therefore, I suggest adding modern play structures for children, updating the walking paths with smooth surfaces, and installing more benches and picnic tables.

These improvements would cater to various needs: children would have a safe and stimulating play area, fitness enthusiasts could enjoy better jogging and walking paths, and everyone could benefit from more spaces to sit and socialize. Moreover, incorporating more greenery and perhaps a community garden would not only beautify the space but also promote environmental awareness and healthy living.

I am eager to contribute to this project and would be happy to volunteer in community clean-up efforts or participate in planning discussions. Together, we can create a park that reflects the spirit and needs of our vibrant community.

Thank you for considering my suggestions.

Warm regards,
Evelyn Torres

Band 9 Example Answer:

Dear Councillor Patricia Hamilton,

I am writing to express my support for the proposed renovation of our local park, Jefferson Green. The revitalization of this public space is crucial as it serves as a central hub for community activities and provides a much-needed oasis of greenery amidst our urban landscape.

I believe that the park would greatly benefit from the addition of a well-equipped children's play area. The current playground is somewhat outdated and does not cater to children with varying abilities. Incorporating inclusive play equipment would ensure that all children have the opportunity to enjoy the park. Additionally, installing more benches and picnic tables would encourage families to spend quality time outdoors.

For the health-conscious and active residents, a fitness trail with exercise stations could be introduced. This would promote a healthy lifestyle and provide a structured space for individuals of all ages to exercise. Furthermore, a community garden would not only beautify the park but also foster a sense of collaboration and environmental responsibility among neighbors.

These enhancements would not only increase the park's aesthetic appeal but also its functionality, making it a more vibrant and inclusive space for everyone from young families to elderly residents. The upgraded facilities would cater to a diverse range of interests and needs, thereby strengthening community ties.

I am keen to contribute to this exciting project and would be delighted to volunteer my time to assist with the planning or physical work required. I am also part of a local community group that would be eager to support the renovation in any way possible.

Thank you for considering my suggestions. I look forward to seeing Jefferson Green become a place where all community members can thrive and connect.

Warm regards,
Eleanor Sutton

Task 2

Band 5 Example Answer:

I agree that learning different languages is important today. It helps people talk to others from different countries. It is good for jobs and traveling.

For example, my friend Maria is learning English and got a better job in a big company. She talks to people from many places. This is good for her work.

I see tourists in my city. They try to speak our language. It is nice. We help them and they are happy. When I go to another country, I try to learn some words too. It makes travel easy and fun.

So, I think learning languages is very good for everyone. It makes the world a friendly place.

Band 7 Example Answer:

I agree that learning different languages is very important in today's world. Knowing more than one language opens many doors and brings people closer together. It's like having a key that can unlock new cultures, ideas, and friendships.

For example, in my own life, learning English has helped me a lot. I come from a place where we speak Spanish, and when I started to learn English, I found I could talk to people from all over the world. It was amazing! I remember meeting a friend, Alex, from Australia. We could share stories and laugh together because we both spoke English. If I didn't learn English, I wouldn't have made that friend.

Also, in my job, knowing different languages is very helpful. I work with people from different countries, and when we can speak the same language, it's easier to work together. We solve problems faster and understand each other better. It's like when you play a team sport; if everyone knows the same signals, the team plays better.

Lastly, when I travel, speaking the local language, even just a little, makes the trip nicer. People smile more, and I can order food or find places without trouble. It's like being a part of their world, not just a visitor.

In conclusion, learning languages is important because it helps us connect with others, do better in our jobs, and enjoy our travels more. It's a powerful tool that can make our big world feel a little smaller and friendlier.

Band 9 Example Answer:

In today's global village, the ability to speak multiple languages is often touted as a critical skill. I wholeheartedly concur with this perspective, as multilingualism opens doors to cultural understanding, career opportunities, and personal growth.

Firstly, learning different languages allows for a deeper cultural connection. When you speak someone's language, you gain insights into their way of life, traditions, and values. For instance, my friend, Elena, who learned Japanese, was able to connect with locals on a recent trip to Tokyo in a way that would have been impossible had she not spoken their language. She experienced the authentic Japanese way of life, from traditional tea ceremonies to the nuances of their daily interactions, which enriched her travel experience immensely.

Moreover, in the professional realm, being multilingual can be a significant asset. In my own career, speaking both English and Spanish has enabled me to work on projects with teams from different parts of the world. This skill has not only made me a valuable asset to my employer but has also allowed me to bridge communication gaps, leading to more efficient and effective collaboration. The ability to negotiate and communicate in the native language of a business partner can also foster trust and open up new markets.

Lastly, learning languages is a mental exercise that can enhance cognitive abilities. Studies have shown that bilingual individuals often have better memory, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking. Personally, learning French has challenged me to think in different ways and has improved my ability to focus and multitask.

In conclusion, the importance of learning different languages in today's interconnected world cannot be overstated. It enriches personal experiences, provides a competitive edge in the workforce, and enhances cognitive functions. As the world continues to become more integrated, those who invest in learning additional languages will find themselves at a distinct advantage, both personally and professionally.
