Hugh Jackman Gets Good Skin Cancer News

Australian actor Hugh Jackman said his skin cancer tests are good. He shared the news on social media. He wrote, “My biopsies came back negative!!! Thank you ALL for the love. I feel it!” Jackman had many skin cancer tests. He first had skin cancer in 2013. He had at least six more tests after that.

Jackman talked about sun safety. He said, “Please remember to wear sunscreen with a high level of SPF, no matter the season”. The actor had skin cancer tests because his doctor saw something. The doctor thought it could be basal cell carcinoma. This is a kind of skin cancer. It is not very dangerous. It is caused by too much sun. Most people who have this skin cancer get better. Australia has many people with skin cancer. Every year, more than 11,500 people find out they have a melanoma. This is a different kind of skin cancer.

Group or Classroom Activities

Warm-up Activities:

– Sun Safety Charades
Instructions: Divide the class into two teams. Have each team take turns acting out sun safety actions, such as applying sunscreen, wearing a hat, or seeking shade. The other team must guess the action in English. Award points for correct guesses.

– Skin Cancer Word Scramble
Instructions: Write scrambled vocabulary words from the article on the board (e.g., “nuscsreen” for “sunscreen” or “ancerc” for “cancer”). Have students work in pairs to unscramble the words and write them correctly. The first pair to finish with all correct answers wins.

– Sun Safety Poster
Instructions: In groups, have students create a poster about sun safety, using vocabulary and information from the article. Encourage them to draw pictures and write simple sentences or phrases in English. After they finish, have each group present their poster to the class.

– Role Play: Doctor’s Visit
Instructions: In pairs, have students role-play a doctor’s visit where one student is the doctor and the other is the patient. The doctor should ask the patient about their sun exposure and give advice on sun safety, using vocabulary from the article. After the role play, have students switch roles.
