Apple’s New Vision Pro: A Cool Head Thing

Apple's Vision Pro headset, set to be released on February 2nd in the US, has faced production issues, with forecasts reduced from one million units to 400,000 in 2024.

A big company named Apple is going to sell a new thing you can wear on your head. It is called Vision Pro and it will cost a lot of money. People in the United States can buy it soon, but people in the United Kingdom have to wait. This is the first new thing from Apple since a watch they made a long time ago. They wanted to make many of these head things, but now they can only make a few.

The Vision Pro has a place to keep lots of games and pictures inside. It can look at your eye to see where you are looking, even if the other eye doesn’t work well. Apple wants people who make games to call them something special, not the usual names. Some people from a place called the BBC tried the Vision Pro. They said it wasn’t too heavy and looked a bit like an iPhone, but they couldn’t take videos to show us how it works.

Group or Classroom Activities

Warm-up Activities:

– Charades
Instructions: Divide the class into two teams. One student from each team will come to the front of the class and act out a word or phrase related to the article (e.g. “wear on your head,” “look at your eye,” “make games”). The first team to correctly guess the word or phrase gets a point.

– News Summary
Instructions: In pairs, students take turns summarizing the main points of the article to their partner. Encourage them to use their own words and keep their summary concise. After each student has had a turn, they can compare their summaries and discuss any differences.

– Vocabulary Pictionary
Instructions: Give each student a word or phrase from the article (e.g. “Vision Pro,” “United Kingdom,” “iPhone”). Without using any words or letters, they must draw a picture to represent the word or phrase. The class can then try to guess what each drawing represents.

– Keyword Hangman
Instructions: Choose a keyword from the article (e.g. “Apple,” “Vision Pro,” “United States”). Draw a series of blanks on the board to represent the letters in the word. Students take turns guessing letters. If a student guesses a correct letter, write it in the appropriate blank. If a student guesses an incorrect letter, begin drawing a hangman. The game continues until the keyword is guessed or the hangman is completed.

– Two Truths and a Lie
Instructions: In pairs, students take turns sharing two true statements and one false statement about the article. Their partner must guess which statement is the lie. After both students have had a turn, they can discuss any interesting facts or information they learned from the article.
