The Strange Case of the Wishing Well

Benny discovers that true wishes bring joy when he and Sam share laughter with their village.

Try this story at a different level?

In a small, quiet village between green hills, there was an old wishing well. People believed it could make wishes come true, but they also said it was a little strange. Benny, a curious boy with bright eyes and a big imagination, wanted to see if the well really worked. After school, he and his best friend Sam, who liked to tease him about his love for mysteries, decided to check it out.

When they got to the well, Benny leaned over and whispered, “I wish for a giant chocolate cake!” Suddenly, the ground shook and, with a big splash, a huge cake came out of the well, landing right next to him. But when they cut into it, they found it was full of rubber ducks, not chocolate. “What a cake! I guess it quacks under pressure!” Sam laughed. They were disappointed but couldn’t stop laughing.

Benny decided to try again and said, “I wish for a pet dragon!” The well made a gulping sound and, after a moment, a baby dragon with rainbow-colored scales appeared. It flapped its tiny wings and knocked over some hay bales, but instead of breathing fire, it shot out clouds of confetti! “Well, at least our dragon knows how to party!” Sam giggled.

After several more funny wishes, like a waterfall of grape soda, a trampoline that turned into a bouncy castle, and a statue of a dancing chicken, Benny and Sam sat down, tired from all the surprises. “Benny, I think the well is having fun with us!” Sam laughed. They realized the well’s surprises were both funny and unpredictable.

Benny decided to make one last wish. “I wish to understand how this wishing well works!” He leaned over the edge, hoping for an answer. A voice from the well said, “You must be careful what you wish for! Wishes can be silly or serious, but the best ones are for others!” Their laughter stopped as they thought about the words. Inspired, they wished together, “We wish everyone in the village has a fun, happy day!” Balloons and confetti flew out, scattering joy and laughter all around. The village celebrated, and Benny and Sam learned the true magic of sharing happiness with others.
