Two friends, Chris and Seth, walked a very long way, 870 miles, around a place called Wales. They carried their music things on their backs and played songs for people almost 50 times in 60 days. They wanted to show that you can play music for people without hurting the earth. They walked through many places and made a new music album with sounds from their trip. They also helped people hear live music who don’t usually get to and collected money for a special music charity.

Chris and Seth started walking because they didn’t like sitting in cars and hurting the earth. They walked even when the weather was very bad, but nice people let them sleep in their homes. After walking so much, they think they will use buses and trains for their next music shows instead of walking. Their long walk showed that playing music can be good for the earth and make people happy. They hope other music people will think about this too.

Group or Classroom Activities

Warm-up Activities:

– Vocabulary Pictionary
Instructions: Use a whiteboard or large paper to draw pictures of key vocabulary from the article (e.g., friends, walk, music, earth, charity). Students take turns drawing while the rest of the class guesses the vocabulary word in English. This activity helps beginners associate words with images and reinforces their understanding of the article’s content.

– News Reporter Role-play
Instructions: Split the classroom into pairs. One student is the news reporter, and the other is either Chris or Seth. The news reporter will ask questions about their journey, their reasons for walking, and their experiences. This encourages students to practice speaking and listening while using information from the article.

– Opinion Poll
Instructions: Create a list of statements about the article, such as “Walking is a good way to travel for music shows,” or “Music should be played without hurting the earth.” Students walk around the room and ask their classmates whether they agree or disagree with each statement. This activity helps students practice asking and answering questions and expressing opinions.

– Sketch It
Instructions: Give students a few minutes to sketch a scene or a concept from the article, such as Chris and Seth walking with their instruments, or people enjoying live music. After they have completed their drawings, ask them to describe in English what they have drawn to the rest of the class. This encourages creativity and speaking practice.

– Future Predictions
Instructions: After discussing the article, ask students to write down or share their predictions about what Chris and Seth might do next, how their actions might influence others, or what the future of eco-friendly music performances might look like. This allows students to use their imagination and practice using future tense verbs.
